Hennecke GmbH - machines and plants for polyurethane processing
Up to 30% regrind contents
GrindFlex technology is a joint development of Metzeler Schaum GmbH, Bayer AG and Hennecke GmbH. It permits the addition of up to 30% of PU powder into the polyol stream (related to the amount of polyol), depending on the formulation.

Grain size below 0.2 mm
GrindFlex is a recycling process, in which foam trimmings are converted into loose flakes. These are then ground into a powder through shear action in a roller mill. Larger particles are filtered and then fed to the mill until all particles fall into the specified < 0.2 mm fines fraction. The regrind powder can then be put in intermediate storage containers (silos).

On-line metering
From a silo, the recycled powder is continuously fed to the liquid polyol stream through a special metering station with integrated feed screw. This on-line process of metering bulk material into the continuous polyol stream is also used for processing melamine powder in the production of fire-retardant CME and CMHR foams (differential flow system) on Hennecke's slabstock lines.

Performance data
The performance data of a GrindFlex system for large-scale industrial use shown on the left are impressive: up to 300 kg flakes are ground into powder of less than 0.2 mm grain size every hour. The on-line metering unit feeds up to 70 kg of powder per minute into the polyol stream. With a second metering unit running in parallel, up to 140 kg of powder per minute can be processed.

Advantages:
Production of a new, profitable high-quality product
Environmentally compatible recycling technology
Almost full re-use of all trimmings obtained in slabstock manufacturing
Homogeneous integration of PU flakes into the foam cell structure
