Overmolding technology for transparent and durable PUR coatings
Premium Surface Finishes for Demanding Products
Overmolding technology enhances substrates by applying a protective polyurethane or polyurea layer using the Reaction Injection Molding (RIM) process. The result is a scratch-resistant, durable, and highly functional surface that can replace conventional multi-layer varnish systems.
But the benefits are far more than just surface level. The polyurethane layer protects against scratches and stone chipping, enables self-healing properties with specialized material systems, and allows sensors or electronic components to be integrated directly beneath the surface.
CLEARRIM technology overmolds thermoplastic substrates with a thin layer of transparent or pigmented polyurethane. The coating thickness can be adjusted as needed.
Typical applications include decorative trim and center consoles for vehicle interiors, capacitive smart surfaces that replace physical control elements, and front-end modules or large exterior body components where the polyurethane layer protects sensitive sensor elements. The process is also suitable for decorative consumer products, sanitary applications, and furniture components.
In addition, we develop highly integrated manufacturing solutions in which injection molding and polyurethane overmolding are combined within a single production cell, allowing the system to produce fully finished components that are ready for installation (clearmelt®).

The high-pressure metering system designed specifically for CLEARRIM applications. It is tailored to PUR overmolding, with precise temperature control from 20°C to 100°C, bubble-free processing, and interfaces for integration into injection molding systems.
The high-pressure metering machine for rapid color changes in surface finishing applications. It can be equipped with up to seven color modules and allows color changes in under 15 minutes, without the need for flushing or cleaning procedures.
